Wanarn Aged Care

Wanarn is located in the sandhill country, 100km north of Warburton. The community of Wanarn is located halfway between Warakurna and Warburton and was established in the late 80’s. In 1989 the original 15 bed Aged Care facility was opened and managed by the Ngaanyatjarra Health Service to provide care for aged residents who required both high and level levels of care. The Fire protection upgrade recently completed by Firesafe included a new fire sprinkler system to serve the Residential and Palliative Care buildings.

Within our scope, we were tasked with the design, supply and installation of:

  • A fully compliant Automatic Sprinkler system in accordance with AS2118.1 (2017) – General Systems
  • A fully compliant Automatic Sprinkler system in accordance with AS2118.4-2012 – sprinkler protection for accommodation buildings not exceeding four storeys in height

New Residential Control Valve sets were installed on the exterior of both the new buildings. The on-site fire pump set and fire water storage tank to serve the sprinkler system were installed by others, Firesafe were responsible for connecting of the fire pumps to the tank.

Throughout the project we were faced with various challenges:

  • Being a remote location, Firesafe had to co-ordinate the installation of works to avoid return trips to the site to complete the install. This involved ensuring all materials were ordered and transported to site in advance.
  • We also had to work with other trades to ensure there were no unnecessary project timetable delays. This was important given that Firesafe were not responsible for the install of the fire pump and water storage tank.
