Rockingham Senior High School

Rockingham Senior High School is a public co-educational high day school, located on Read Street in Rockingham. The school consists of a number of buildings located on a site bordered by Read Street to the East and Farris Street to the North.

Firesafe were contracted to provide an upgrade to the site wide hydrant system at the school. The new Covered Eating Area is an extension of an existing building on the site which includes the Canteen and Gymnasium. The existing non-compliant hydrants on the site have been decommissioned as part of the works, however the water supply serving these has been retained as the supply feeds the existing fire hose reels that are not required to be modified at this stage.

Within our scope, we were tasked with the design and installation of:

  • Installation of a compliant Fire Hydrant system in accordance with AS2419.1-2005
  • Fire Pump Sets in accordance with AS2941-2008
  • Supply and installation of Fire Water Storage Tanks
  • Fire Extinguishers in accordance with AS2441

The hydrant system provides coverage to the school including
pumps, tanks, ring main, booster assembly and external hydrants. Due to the size of the largest fire compartment, the system is required to achieve 30 L/s, this is achieved by installing a storz connection. The new hydrants are located in external areas in nominated locations around the school grounds. The water supply for the upgraded hydrants is fed from a new boosted system connected to the new pump sets. Water supply is fed via the Water Corporation town’s main that is connected to the 2x new above ground water storage tanks which are located external to the new Fire Pump Room.

The Booster Assembly, Pumps and Tanks are located in the south-east corner of the school accessed from Read Street. The booster is within site of the main entry but doesn’t block access into the main car park for other appliances.

The Fire Pumps installed are a combination of electric and diesel pumps complete with a jacking pump which are located in the new Fire Pump Room.
