Busselton Shopping Centre Stage 3

The new extension (Stage 3) of the Busselton Shopping Centre comprises the redevelopment and extension of the existing shopping centre located in the heart of Busselton to accommodate additional key tenants, a cinema and beverage precinct.

Firesafe were awarded the contract to undertake works to supply, install and commission fire protection to these new areas to include new and external fire hydrants, a new automatic fire sprinkler system and extinguishers provided throughout Stage 3.

Within our scope, we were tasked with the design and installation of:

  • A compliant Fire Sprinkler system in accordance with AS2118-2017 & AS2118.6-2012
  • Fire Hydrant installation in accordance with AS2419-2005
  • Fixed Fire Pump Sets in accordance with AS2941-2013
  • Fire Water Storage Tanks in accordance with AS2304-2011
  • Portable Fire Extinguishers in accordance with AS2444-2001

New sprinkler systems (3 & 4) were installed throughout the new extension to the Ground Floor and Level 1 and within the new pump room located on Kent Street. New inter-connecting pipework was installed between the new fire pump room sprinkler control valve sets 3 & 4 and the existing sprinkler control valve sets 1 & 2 which are located in the existing control valve room.

A new fire hydrant system consisting of attack hydrants was also installed within these areas.

A new fire pump room was provided to house 2 x new dedicated automatic primary and secondary diesel fire pumps complete with a jacking pump for the systems pressure maintenance. Firesafe provided 2 x 60Lt fire water storage tanks, (120Lt full capacity) with automatic infill fed from the Kent Street town’s main to maintain capacity.

We were required to disconnect the existing fire booster cabinet and provide new cabinets to boost the existing and new hydrant system throughout the new and existing complex.

A new fire sprinkler booster cabinet was also installed adjacent to the fire pump room to booster the fire sprinkler installations No’s. 1-4.

Fire extinguishers and fire blankets were also installed to the new extension.

Throughout the project we were faced with various challenges:

  • As this site was based in Busselton it was classed as a regional project which impacted site works, site deliveries and labour activities. Works was completed within time frame.
  • 14 new Tenancies in Stage 3 had to be completed within the existing construction program which was achieved.
  • Works had to be completed during and out of normal works hours due to the existing centre been fully operational during construction of Stage 3 – Tenancy interfacing works.
